Teresa Began ballet at the age of five, but did not start ballroom dancing until age eighteen while attending NC State University School of Design. After only one year of ballroom training, she was chosen to partner a nationally renowned dancer and moved to Phoenix, AZ to compete professionally in the American Rhythm category.
From 1989 - 1991, Teresa and her partner represented one of the major U.S. francises as their National Rhythm Champions. She won numerous West Coast competitions as well as placing as high as fourth in U.S. Championships. Teresa was also chosen to represent the U.S. on a two week goodwill tour in Russia. Dances in the American Rhythm category include: Cha Cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero and Mambo.
After a short break from competitive dancing, Teresa delved into the Theater Arts and Cabaret divisions in 1993 where she danced with her husband, Jeff Robinson, until 1995. Think of these categories as pair skating without the skates - lots of tricks and overhead lifts make this an exciting category to watch. Dances include everything from Foxtrot to Paso Doble, all with tricks and lifts, of course. Teresa waas U.S. Rising Star Theater Arts Champion, 1994, and Top Six Finalist, 1993 - 1995.
Teresa loves ballroom dancing and enjoys teaching everything from Fred and Ginger Style waltzes to a sassy Cha Cha to fun tricks for performance routines. She is available to teach couples or one-to-one lessons. Speciality and group classes are also available.
